Following a two-week episode break, Extreme Weight Loss resumed last night unveiling one of the most inspiring stories yet! Viewers watched as Ryan Sawlsville, a 23-year-old from Appleton, WI, achieved an incredible transformation and lost 217 pounds.** With Chris Powell’s help, Ryan changed lifelong eating habits, dropped down to a lean 193 lbs and courageously fought past his fear of riding a bike one handed. An avid Green Bay Packers fan, Ryan got to train with Packers legends Donald Driver and Clay Matthews and go see his team at the Super Bowl. Throughout the year, Ryan worked with Chris and Heidi Powell and attributes much of his success to their influence. “Chris and Heidi are not just my trainers. They are SO much more. They have become my family.”
Starting Point: 410 Lbs
Ryan says he was heavy for many years and that his weight kept him from reaching his full potential as a high school football player. Things spiraled out of control four years ago when he lost his left arm in a life-threatening car accident, when a truck broadsided him on a foggy night. After the accident, Ryan dropped out of culinary school, gained even more weight (hitting 410 lbs) and struggled to find a job. “Cooking and performing tasks were more difficult with one arm, but when I couldn’t get jobs, I realized it was probably more due to the fact I was overweight and unable to function in many jobs,” Ryan says. “Losing my arm was difficult; however, being 410 pounds was even more of a disability to me. My life needed to change, but I knew I couldn’t change on my own. I decided to try and get help, and that’s when I found Chris Powell and the Extreme Weight Loss show.”
Working with the Powells
In an amazing 12 months, Ryan went through the transformation of a lifetime, coming back stronger than ever. In his workouts, Chris pushed Ryan to the limit, showing Ryan the strength he had within him. “Chris and Heidi were an amazing part of my journey,” says Ryan. “They knew exactly which buttons to push and at what time. With Chris and Heidi, what you see is what you get. He is caring and sensitive. He also can be extremely tough, but I knew it was because he wanted the best for me. He needed to push me.” In addition to Ryan’s incredible weight loss journey, he experienced an inner transformation as well, as he regained control of his life and found reserves of confidence he never knew he had.

Bod•ē for on-the-go workouts
Ryan says he’s thankful for the support he received from Vemma throughout the past year. “I am so grateful I had the Bod•ē products during my journey,” says Ryan, who was provided with Bod•ē products throughout his transformation. “The products helped when I was on the go. This past year has been a very fast-paced lifestyle, and there are times I needed great nutrition — fast! Bod•ē gave me the nutrients my body needed to keep going, and they fueled my workouts.** They helped even more as my workouts became increasingly difficult, providing my body with exactly what it needed.”**
Sticking to the program and seeing results
Ryan used Chris Powell’s carb cycling eating program throughout his weight loss journey (outlined in Powell’s new book Choose More, Lose More For Life) and he worked out four hours a day, six days a week. He stopped eating fast food and his family started cooking healthy meals together. Even with amazing family support, though, the journey was tough. “There were times I was so tired and exhausted, and I felt my body would just give out,” Ryan says. “I probably would have given up if I didn’t have my faith in God. ‘I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13).’”
One of Ryan’s trials was overcoming his fear of riding a bike. “Biking was a huge personal challenge of mine, and Chris wanted to make sure I would accomplish this goal.” From the first workout, Chris challenged Ryan to take steps toward his goal. “When it was time for me to attempt this challenge, I was able to work with one of my all-time heroes, which made it extraordinary.”
Big success: the final weigh-in
At the end of his 12-month journey, Ryan weighed in and the stats were impressive: he’d lost 217 pounds and surpassed his goal weight of 195 lbs.** “I began at 410 lbs and ended at 193 lbs,” Ryan says.** “I am down from a size 5X shirt to a size Medium, and down from a size 50 waist pants to a size 33.** I cannot believe it myself! It is truly amazing! I am finally a confident man. With the weight gone, I can move about more freely, get into a smaller vehicle, and even ride on rides! I can live my life! I can finally become an active member of society, contributing and helping others instead of sitting around at home. I can finally give back and share!”
Ryan has always loved cooking and now enjoys cooking great-tasting, healthy meals for friends and family. He’s also started coaching football. His weight loss has re-energized him and given him perspective.** “When I was in the car accident, I should have lost my life, but I didn’t. Sitting in the hospital, I realized God spared me for a reason. I wanted to help others, but knew that my weight prevented me from doing so. Now, with God’s help, I can hopefully change others’ lives. I would love to encourage others, just as Chris and Heidi encouraged me.”
**Results not typical, you may not do as well. Two pilot studies conducted by Vemma showed that 55 participants who followed the Vemma Bod•ē Transformation Plan for 12 weeks using Vemma Bod•ē Burn, Bod•ē Rest and Bod•ē Cleanse, lost an average of 14.8 pounds. Not all participants will complete the plan, or accurately follow the directions and guidelines of the plan. Vemma Nutrition Company recommends you follow a healthy approach to weight loss by consulting with your physician or healthcare provider before starting any new exercise, diet plan, nutrition or supplementation program, particularly if you suffer from any medical condition or regularly use prescription or over-the-counter medications. The Vemma Bod•ē products as part of the Vemma Bod•ē Transformation Plan should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and 10 minutes of daily exercise.
