I was invited to attend the Craft Junkies Winter Crafting Retreat at Blackberry Creek Retreat and B&B. I arrived at 3pm last Thursday and although the group stayed through Sunday afternoon, I came home Saturday night about 9pm as I have responsibilities at church on Sundays.
I took only quilting/sewing projects with me. I am excited to report that of all those projects, I was able to "finish" 8 of them. Over the next few days I am going to share photos and information about those projects.
Thursday after I set up my sewing machine/table and supplies, I took this quilt top started by my mom, and I had to take a lot of it apart and re-sew. As I worked on it I thought about how nicely some of it was cut (strip widths) and blocks were in the correct order and began to wonder if this was a top she worked on "as her Alzheimers progressed" and finally she stopped because it was to confusing to fix or finish. It made my heart even sadder for her and my anger at that despicable illness more intense.
However, I now have it fixed and I will add a final border to the outside and have it machine quilted. The pattern is a Rail Fence.
The corners aren't perfectly aligned, and some blocks are a bit wider then others and I had to ease them to fit, but my kids won't care all they will know is that their Gramma made it and that I finished it and that is all that matters!
have a wonderful day- more photos and stories to come!
